Australia was chosen as host Asian Cup 2015. It's a consolation prize for the Kangaroos after they lost the State of Qatar in the bidding host the 2022 World Cup.
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) finally set to be Australia's sole candidate to host the Asian Cup in 2015. However, Football Federation Australia (FFA) remains required to follow the formal bidding process by submitting a final presentation in front of the AFC executive committee.
"Today the AFC met and decided Australia would be the host country for the Asian Cup 2015," said the AFC president, Mohamed bin Hammam, told a news conference ahead of the start of the 2011 Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar. So reported the AFP.
"We consider all the achievements made in Australia toward the development of soccer and to encourage the next step in developing the game, we are happy to announce that the AFC has approved Australia to host Asian Cup 2015," continued bin Hammam.
The election of Australia to host 2015 Asian Cup is once again a consolation prize for their failure to host the 2022 World Cup. Kangaroo country unable to compete with Qatar are more trusted by FIFA.
"We are very pleased that you, Mr President of AFC, and your executive committee decided to allocate the implementation of the Asian Cup 2015 to Australia," FFA chairman happy, Frank Lowy.
"We'll do the best job for the AFC and for Australia," Lowy promise.
Asia Cup 2015 scheduled to be held in January 2015. Australia is likely to prepare four or five venues as the location of 16 teams battle the best in Asia.
